February 14, 2008 - A note from NIFS:
We have a super class
offered for the next 4 Saturdays from 2-3:00 pm. A great workout to focus on
your other running and cycling muscles – a piece of conditioning that can
make the difference in your training and racing. I know it’s late notice, but
we have room for 7 more people. It’s a package of 4 classes.
Pilates for Sports Performance Saturdays February 16 – March 8 2:00-3:00 pm
This class will work on core strength and stability and spinal flexibility. This specialized workout will focus on strengthening tendons and correcting muscle imbalances; which can impede running and cycling performance. To register, limit 12, call 274.3432 ext. 216, or stop by the service desk. Members: $32/4 classes; Non-members: $48/4 classes. Meet in group fitness studio. (60 min)

Is it safe to swim at Eagle
Creek?
We have received a few calls regarding the quality of
water at Eagle Creek Reservoir (due to the dry, hot weather). The reservoir is
tested regularly by the Marion Co. Health Dept. At this time (August 14),
everything is fine!

It is interesting to note that Kate was 'technically' in the lead over everyone
after the bike (she started in
the second wave). Kate also competes as a professional.
From the "did you know" dept: Kate is the daughter of Jan Ripple - the famous
triathlete of the early 1980's!

The 10 Most Violated Rules from USAT
There has been a little bit of confusion over a NEW
triathlon event this year that we have been planning. Originally there are some
calendar listings that say ALCATRAZ TRIATHLON on July 7 - This
event is now called the Morse Park Summer Triathlon
(or until we change the name again!). Originally the Alcatraz
Restaurant wanted to sponsor this event, but the corporate headquarters said
'no' - so therefore we had to change up the name. This event is now up and ready
to go for more info

Paper applications will be printed soon. The event will happen up at Morse
Reservoir (just north of Noblesville) - The event is limited to the first 300 -
so hurry and enter soon.
The Indianapolis Sprint
Triathlon Series is ready to go.... Dates are:

The Indiana Downs Triathlons have changed for this year - we will do TWO of them - a short course and a longer course:
June 10 - short course - 1/4 mile
swim, 14 mile bike, 3 mile run

Bryan Boggs and Jim Barber just made it!! Both boats are heading back. We were
just told that they have the top two times of the year. Jim 9:06 and Bryan 9:29.

Update - the USAT Mideast Triathlon Championships on August 27 will feature a new distance for the DUATHLON - since it is a qualifier for Worlds - the distances are 10K run, 40K bike, 5K run. For more info

Triathletes waited for an extra
45 minutes for the start of the
Mideast Regional Championships due to the foggy conditions.
First Across the line at the
Mideast Championships...
Ryan Shanahan flew threw the course with the fastest swim/bike split -but was
caught on the run by Michael Smith who started in the 4th wave.

Dixon tackles another triathlon
Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon will
competed in the August 7th Indiana Downs Triathlon and finished 8th overall!
"I've done some triathlons in the past and always really enjoyed the competition
aspect of it," said Dixon, who won his age group last month. "I started training
for them again about a month or so ago and am doing several in Indiana and maybe
a half Ironman later in the year."

Congratulations to Michael Smith and
Heather Hedrick for winning the Michelob Ultra Point Series. Points were
awarded after each of the three triathlons at Eagle Creek Park - Mike
finished second in the Sprint Triathlon and won the Mideast Regional.
Heather won the Sprint and the Indy Tri. Matt Holms of Zink
Distributing awarded Mike the winners jersey following the Mideast
